Tried to find our server to see if this could be rectified and ended up going to the bar. Peeling the chicken back and attempting to use the table's pepper and parmesan did nothing to help the bland chicken and tin tinged tomato soup of sauce. It looked like moss, or 70's shag carpet, and could be peeled away from the bowtie noodle swamp below in one sheet. The sauce didn't have garlic, oregano or even pepper. if it was there at all.Īfter two bites into the chicken parmesan found it's watery sauce wasn't seasoned AT ALL. Ordered drinks, an appetizer and two entrees, one drink was spilled accidentally, and the appetizer took forty minutes-just seconds before the entrees arrived. The single star feels generous after dining at Cafe Al Dente for the first and final time last night. I bet it'll be right up there with your top 3 favs. If you're wondering where to go on a Friday night for a great pizza & beer (or wine), give this place a try and add it to your Pizza Critic List. The place reminds you of one of those great family restaurants with a down home feel, great food and a grouchy waitress named Flow who has a heart of gold (except here, her name is Shannon). The crust is perfection the cheese is just how I like it, and if you're lucky, you'll get served by the rough sometimes foul-mouthed waitress Shannon. I normally just always order their pizza - it's that good. I return time after time for their pizza but friends and family have had other items on their menu which I've tried, and all have been very very good.

It's simple, there's no frills, the food is consistently good and the pizza is right up there with the most memorable in my book. It's true.Ĭafe Al Dente is family run with a small town feel in the center of the city. Yes, Cafe Al Dente happens to be a couple doors up from a new "pizza joint" in town, and yes this new pizza place claims to be "the true Italian Pizza".but in my humble pizza critic opinion, Cafe Al Dente has the best Pizza in Kansas City. Louis' Italian District (The Hill) and the other pizza joint is in New York City. Two places in particular stick out in my mind to be what I hold as the guide to measure all pizza by. Oh and let's not even mention the different types of cheeses. Everyone likes something different about their pizza - thin crust vs thick crust, coal oven vs brick oven, light sauce vs heavy sauce.the list goes on. Hate giving negative feedback - but only getting 6 out of 10 completed & not doing well = a sub par review. Of our group of 10 - 2 didn't get meals before 6:45, 1 had a salad that was inedible, and 1 had a plate go cold before she could finish. being understaffed or staffing under-trained team members really showed. Finally, we could see that they were hiring every position known to man - waitress, management, bar, cooks, etc. The layout of the establishment (or HVAC) needs tweeked. The front of the house had vents blowing down on tables making meals cold prior to being able to finish your plate. Additionally, athletes were hot (post game) and were seated back by the kitchen area (warmest area in the restaurant) - they asked AC to be on, despite outdoor temps in the mid 50's. Needless to say - kitchen struggled trying to get meals out in a timely manner. and a second group (girl's team from Central Oklahoma) arrived right after we did (approximately 22-25). Additionally, our group (10) was booked early. Smaller restaurant made ambience tough - as intimate proximity to other tables is an understatement. Arrived at 5:30, with reservations at Breakout for 7 p.m. We were there as part of a church group going to Breakout KC.
